Beaches Speeches Makes History
Beaches Speeches is one of Toronto’s newest Toastmasters Clubs thanks to long-time Beach resident and community supporter Chris Yaccato. Chris contacted Toastmasters International about starting a Beach community Toastmasters club in 2003. By early 2004, with the support of Division C Governor Kathleen Wong and other seasoned Toastmaster professionals such as Alan Devine, Jeffrey Brown and Marisa Lam, Beaches Speeches was up and running.
Every new Toastmasters Club must have 20 members before it can be considered official by Toastmasters International. Beaches Speeches acquired 22 members by the end of May, 2004, thus becoming eligible to receive its charter status as an official Toastmasters International Club. This means Beaches Speeches is now part of the world’s leading organization devoted to teaching communication and leadership skills. Toastmasters International, founded in 1924, has more than 211,000 members in approximately 90 countries – and is still growing. Our club is just one of the more then 10,500 clubs located around the world.
Beaches Speeches meetings are held at Community Centre 55, which has graciously donated the Sunday afternoon meeting space. On a voluntary basis, Beaches Speeches members are asked to make a weekly donation to Community Centre 55’s Christmas Share Program as a way of giving back and saying thank-you.
With its dedicated and committed membership, Beaches Speeches is a well on its way to becoming a dynamic, successful club within the Beach and Toastmasters communities. |
